You’ve learned how to use a sewing machine… now what?

This 4-session class series is will equip you with all you need to know to tackle your first garment sewing project, from selecting a digital sewing pattern to constructing the garment.

You’ll learn:

  • How to select a sewing pattern that will fit your body, style & skill level

  • How to get a better fit the first time by properly taking your measurements, interpreting size charts, and making simple pattern adjustments

  • How to prepare a digital sewing pattern

  • Basic fabric literacy; where and how to shop for fabric

  • How to properly cut and press your fabric

  • Basic sewing vocabulary and how to interpret your pattern instructions

The class will meet every other week. There will be some homework in the off-weeks in order to make the most of our class time.

After the first class, you will select a sewing pattern to work with throughout the session.

Prerequisites: Sewing machine basics or equivalent

Meeting times: 4 Saturdays: Sept. 5. Sept. 19, Oct. 3, Oct. 17

Supplies you’ll need: A sewing pattern and fabric of your choice (to purchase/source after the first class session). Fabric shears and pins/pattern weights. A sewing machine to continue work on your project after the conclusion of class (or come back for studio time).
